2018 Wassererhof Pinot Blanc
Tasting Notes:
Straw yellow with a green tinge, expect tasting notes of apple and pear and crisp with a lot of freshness. An easy drinker in our opinion.
Wassererhof Wines:
At Wassererhof, the Mock brothers practice family balance: everyone contributes their personal strengths to the business. The front men when you visit our farm are the twins Christoph and Andreas Mock, the winemaker and the cook.
Since the brothers founded their family business in 2004, they have been working on their vision: the production of excellent wines with character - typical Wassererhof - which they present in a beautiful setting
Pinot Blanc:
Pinot Blanc is a genetic mutation of Pinot Noir, aka the white skinned version. (As opposed to Pinot Gris / Grigio which is the grey skinned version). Although not the most famous grape of the Pinot family, it is an important grape in certain regions around the world. In particular, Alsace in France, Alto Adige in northern Italy and Germany. Flavors vary depending on the region but in general Pinot Blanc tends to be made into dry, refreshing and fruity wines with notes of peach, pear, almond, lemon zest and minerals.
Trentino - Alto Adige / Suditrol:
Trentino Alto Adige is Italy’s northernmost wine region, located right on the border with Austria. It is also one of Italy’s smallest wine regions, yet thanks to its geographical position it is also one of the most multifaceted. Trentino - Alto Adige is composed of two autonomous provinces. Trentino, which takes it’s name from the region's capital of Trento on the banks of the Adige river, is almost entirely Italian speaking, while Alto Adige has a predominantly German speaking population. The latter know their province by the name Sudtirol. This is due to the region's former status as part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire from which it was reclaimed by Italy in 1919.
And while this may be a tiny wine region, home to only 13,000 acres of vines, the region is varied enough to have 7 distinct growing sub-regions. Though it is important to note that pretty much all of those growing areas follow the Adige river and its tributaries. Outside of those areas, the terrain is generally too mountainous for viticulture.
Food & Wine:
Pinot Blanc is a great starter wine. It pairs well with a variety of proteins from seafood and poultry to lamb and pork. Try it alongside things like Soft cheeses, Crab & avocado salad, White pizza with mushrooms, Quiche Lorraine, Shrimp Pad Thai, Grilled chicken with garlic and tahini sauce, or even pasta with creamy pesto sauce
