2021 Thacher Rosé of Cinsault

2021 Thacher Rosé of Cinsault

Tasting Notes:

This rosé is very light in color it almost doesn’t look like a rosé but more like a white wine with tinges of cooper at the edges. This is light and crips with notes of rose petals, kiwi, melon rind, strawberry starburst and a touch of salinity.

Thacher Wines:

Thacher Winery was started by husband and wife team Michelle and Sherman in 2004. Ever since they have been hand crafting wines from superb vineyards found on the Westside of Paso Robles and in Southern Monterey county.

Cinsault:

This wine is made from 100% Cinsaut, a red grape native to France but also used quite prominently in the wines of South Africa. In France you find this grape mostly in the Rhone Valley as part of the blends or in provencal rosés. It is often blended with grapes like Grenache and Carignan where it adds softness and a rich aroma to the wines. In general Cinsault delivers fresh, punchy reds that are just as floral as they are fruity.

Paso Robles, California:

Paso Robles is one of California’s largest and fastest growing wine regions, home to more than 40,000 vineyard acres and 200 wineries. Paso Robles also produces a huge variety of wines from big fruit Zinfandels, rich Cabernet Sauvignons, Rhone style blends, Italian varieties and out of the box wine blends.

As recently as 2014 Paso Robles was divided into 11 different sub-ava’s, including the Paso Robles Highlands, Templeton Gap and Adelaida district. But winemakers and wine growers in the area are still figuring out the styles of wines that define these now distinct regions. As it currently stands, producers all across the area make a huge range of wines with no specific style connected to a single subregion.

Food & Wine Pairing:

Rosé is kind of like Pinot Noir in that it goes with A LOT. It’s great with seafood, chicken, white meats, grains, pasta, and summer vegetables. The tart acidity can be a nice balance for richer dishes. Rosé is also excellent with a wide range of cheeses.
