2021 Halter Ranch Rosé
Tasting Notes:
This 2021 Rosé is a blend of 71% Grenache, 22% Picpoul Blanc, and 7% Mourvèdre. This is a savory rosé with notes of strawberry and watermelon and a crisp, bright acid driven finish.
Halter Ranch Winery:
Halter Ranch is a vineyard and winery on the west-side of Paso Robles that and its property dates back to the 1880s. They have a commitment to quality, science driven sustainable methods and are a leading example of environmental practices.
Rosé Wines:
Rosé is a tricky one because it’s not a varietal in of itself, it’s a style of wine. All rosé, well true rosé, is red wine. But it can be made from many different kinds of red grapes and into a number of different style wines. There are two main ways rosé wines are produced. This wine was made using the maceration method where grapes are picked specifically to make rosé and are pressed off their skins quickly. This is because all the color pigment in wine comes from the skins.
Paso Robles, California:
Paso Robles is one of California’s largest and fastest growing wine regions, home to more than 40,000 vineyard acres and 200 wineries. Paso Robles also produces a huge variety of wines from big fruit Zinfandels, rich Cabernet Sauvignons, Rhone style blends, Italian varieties and out of the box wine blends.
As recently as 2014 Paso Robles was divided into 11 different sub-ava’s, including the Paso Robles Highlands, Templeton Gap and Adelaida district. But winemakers and wine growers in the area are still figuring out the styles of wines that define these now distinct regions. As it currently stands, producers all across the area make a huge range of wines with no specific style connected to a single subregion.
Food & Wine Pairing:
Rosé is kind of like Pinot Noir in that it goes with A LOT. It’s great with seafood, chicken, white meats, grains, pasta, and summer vegetables. The tart acidity can be a nice balance for richer dishes. Rosé is also excellent with a wide range of cheeses.
