2019 Lapostolle Grand Selection Carmenere

2019 Lapostolle Grand Selection Carmenere

Tasting Notes:

This wine has a fresh nose with red fruit notes like strawberries and plums, along with red paprika and spices. This wine has juicy tannins and firm structure but a smooth, easy drinking finish.

Lapostolle Wines:

Lapostolle was founded by Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband Cyril de Bournet in 1994. After visiting Chile, Alexandra and Cyril not only fell in love with the Apalta Valley, they also detected the enormous potential of the country to produce high quality wines due to its exceptional geographical characteristics.

Carmenere:

If you haven’t heard of or haven’t tried Carmenere we think your missing out. The originally French grape has found a new and very happy home in Chile. The cousin of Merlot, Carmenere wines are notably fruity with an unmistakably peppery note to it. In fact this variety is high in Pyrazines, a chemical compound you also find in Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sauvignon Blanc and Merlot that produces these distinctly green aromas.

Chilean Wine:

The wine growing environment in Chile is near perfect. The Pacific Ocean on the west and the Andes Mountains to the North create an area of isolation for this region that has helped protect the vines from pests and disease. Like much of the new world, Spanish missionaries and conquistadors brought the first grapes to Chile in the 16th century. However, despite their Spanish history, France is the country they have modeled their wine industry after. The wine estates here resemble the chateaux of Bordeaux and their vineyards are planted with those grape varieties, most notably Cabernet Sauvignon.

Chile is known mainly for producing wines from Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmenere, Carignan, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc.

Food & Wine Pairing:

Due to its smoky notes and big but soft tannins, Carmenere works very well when accompanied by dishes made on the bbq, especially lean meats such as Sirloin steaks, or some cuts of Pork and Lamb.
