Tasting Notes: 

This 2021 rosé is a blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Mourvèdre grown in the cool coastal vineyards in Arroyo Secco. This wine tastes like raspberries, fresh herbs, rhubarb, grapefruit and cherries. It's the perfect wine to sip on a warm summer evening or to pair with your next cheese and charcuterie board. 

Joyce Wines: 

Joyce Wine Company stated as a father son project with a backyard vineyard in Carmel Valley. Now headed by self-taught winemaker Russell Joyce, they produce wines with a focus on providing a fresh perspective on coastal terroir.

Rosé: 

Rosé is a tricky one because it’s not a varietal in of itself, it’s a style of wine. All rosé, well true rosé, is red wine. But it can be made from many different kinds of red grapes and into a number of different style wines. There are two main ways rosé wines are produced. This wine was made using the maceration method where grapes are picked specifically to make rosé and are pressed off their skins quickly. This is because all the color pigment in wine comes from the skins.

Arroyo Seco: 

Arroyo Seco (meaning ‘dry creek’) was given AVA status in 1983. Its cool climate means it has one of the longest growing seasons in California, making it well suited to the production of premium wines made from Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Riesling.

There are two distinct climate zones in Arroyo Seco. The flat valley land surrounding Greenfield is cool and foggy, benefiting from the afternoon winds that are funneled down the Salinas Valley from the Pacific Ocean. The situation is rather different in the western part of the AVA, where the narrow gorge provides shelter from the prevailing Salinas winds and reflective cliffs bounce sunlight onto the vines.

Food & Wine Pairing: 

Rosé is kind of like Pinot Noir in that it goes with A LOT. It’s great with seafood, chicken, white meats, grains, pasta, and summer vegetables. The tart acidity can be a nice balance for richer dishes. Rosé is also excellent with a wide range of cheeses.
