2019 Halter Ranch Syrah

2019 Halter Ranch Syrah

Tasting Notes:

This Syrah is full of notes of blueberries, blackberries, and baking spices with hints of currant, boysenberry and a touch of caramel.

Halter Ranch Wines:

Halter Ranch is a vineyard and winery on the west-side of Paso Robles that and its property dates back to the 1880s. They have a commitment to quality, science driven sustainable methods and are a leading example of environmental practices.

Syrah:

The Rhône Valley in France is undoubtedly Syrah’s home. In fact, in the Northern Rhône, it is the only permitted red wine grape. Syrah is a big, lush, rustic grape that has been described by the famous British scholar George Saintsbury as the “manliest grape”. Syrah is a lush, complex wine that has the fruit, body, and alcohol of a Cabernet Sauvignon with much softer tannins. It has flavors of leather, earth, wild blackberries, smoke, roasted meats, and pepper.

Paso Robles, California:

Paso Robles is one of California’s largest and fastest growing wine regions, home to more than 40,000 vineyard acres and 200 wineries. Paso Robles also produces a huge varitiey of wines from big fruit Zinfandels, rich Cabernet Sauvignons, Rhone style blends, Italian varieties and out of the box wine blends.

As recently as 2014 Paso Robles was divided into 11 different sub-ava’s, including the Paso Robles Highlands, Templeton Gap and Adelaida district. But winemakers and wine growers in the area are still figuring out the styles of wines that define these now distinct regions. As it currently stands, producers all across the area make a huge range of wines with no specific style connected to a single subregion.

Food & Wine Pairing:

New world examples of Syrah pair nicely with both meat and fowl, pork especially is a great match with some of these more fruit-forward wines. Overall, Syrah is a big alcohol wine so you need food to match that, nothing tame or timid.Syrah also pairs well with dishes that have a coarse texture as well as anything with pungent flavors like gamey meats or strong cheese.
