Episode 66: Staying Cool in California, The Sta. Rita Hills AVA

Episode 66: Staying Cool in California, The Sta. Rita Hills AVA

Nestled in the east-west corridor of the Central Coast is the Sta. Rita Hills AVA. It is only one of three like it in the world. What makes it special is the morning fog that burns off slowly, and is perfect for growing Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Allie has an excellent example of Pinot Noir from a prime vineyard made by one of our favorite producers. Julie brings a little history and overview of when and why this area was designated for greatness.

We finish with some history of the people who helped form the Sta. Rita Hills, in particular Richard Sanford. Through a series of smart choices and partnerships, people banded together to learn and grow the AVA from the roots up. Listen up, and get to know a phenomenon that Sanford has been known to refer to as "refrigerated sunshine."

Grab a glass of Pinot Noir or Chardonnay and join us! Cheers!
